 Situated in the middle of Rome is the smallest official country in the world, Vatican City.  Covering a mere 0.44 square kilometres, whilst Vatican City may be known to many because of its size, being home to the Pope and centre of the Catholic religion, it is the buildings that are encompassed within the country that are the reason for its inclusion within this list. The Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica and St Peter’s Square will all take your breath away themselves, without taking into consideration the amount of famous artwork that is on display within them.
