Inchmahome Priory Scotland Beautiful Place To Visit
The Priory of Inchmahome was built on the most imposing of the 3 islands on Pond Menteith, in 1238 by the Earl of Menteith, Walter Comyn, for a little group of the Augustinian request. There is some confirmation that there was a church on the island when the monastery was created.
The Priory has accepted countless prominent visitors. Ruler Robert the Bruce visited a few times: in 1306, 1308 and 1310. In 1358 the destiny Ruler Robert II moreover stayed at the cloister. In 1547 the cloister served as an asylum for Monarch Mary, advanced four. The island haven worked for over 300 years.
Even though the greater part of the edifices are now vestiges, much of the initial 13th century structure remains and it a vital memorable locale. The magical archipelago of Orkney is another hot tip for 2011. The second largest Island, Hoy, presents a superbly dramatic landscape, with some of the highest sea cliffs in the country. And there are suggestions that 2011 could the last chance to tackle the famous Old Man of Hoy climbing challenge, as it's tipped that this 450ft pillar of sandstone will collapse soon.
