Alaska Snow | In Photos

For most, the thought of Alaska conjures up visions of snow, snow and more snow.Of course during Alaska’s winter months there is lots of ice and snow and sub zero temperatures, summer time temperatures can get to the high 70’s. The climate in Alaska during summer would certainly be classed as comfortable. The Chugach Mountains and also the Alaska Range coupled with warm Pacific Ocean currents protect towns such as Anchorage the Alaskan capital making it very pleasant during summer months. Another common mistake people make when imaging Alaska is that you have 24 hours of darkness during winter and 24 hours of sunlight during summer.

Maui | Nice View In Photos

Maui is an attraction-filled destination that seems like a compilation of Hawaii's best qualities. Surfing beaches? Check. Volcanoes? Several. Family-friendly? Definitely. Nightlife? Perhaps the best in Hawaii. The legions of vacationers that come back home teary-eyed and hypnotized can't be wrong -- this is where you learn Hawaii is more than a series of islands, it's also a spiritual experience. Step off the plane, take one whiff of the plumeria blooms and you'll be hooked.

While Maui retains many aspects of its indigenous culture -- including hula and a vibrant traditional arts scene -- it's also important to recognize Maui and the island of Hawaii as a uniquely American travel destination. You should never refer to Hawaiian citizens as "natives" or "islanders," and to be aware that, in addition to the indigenous traditions of the island, Hawaiians also take pride in their status as a state of the union.
